Unlike kids, teenagers are a bit more open to getting braces. After all, it is easy to see the benefits of a perfect smile. We at Pure Orthodontics are more than happy to give them just what they need to get that perfect smile.

We offer our teenaged patients two treatment options. They can choose between our traditional metal braces and the Invisalign braces.

Traditional Braces

Your teen is probably most familiar with traditional braces. The brackets are made out of metal, which is why some of our teenaged patients opt for this form of braces, while other teens feel like they are a little heavy, making our Invisalign braces much more popular.

For our patients who decide to go the traditional route, we provide them the option to choose from a variety of rubber band colors for their braces, allowing them to express themselves and be creative!

Invisalign is another treatment for teeth misalignment that teens can get at Pure Orthodontics.

Manufactured out of thermoplastic material, these clear aligners are custom-made for each patient and move the patient’s teeth in cycles. Patients periodically receive new aligners throughout the treatment, with each new aligner making small changes to the position of the teeth until they are perfectly aligned.

The primary benefit of Invisalign (besides aligning the patient’s teeth into a perfect smile) is that they are almost invisible. People around the patient won’t even notice that they are wearing an aligner. Also, there is no need for a major lifestyle change since they are removable. Patients can take Invisalign off when they eat or for dental hygiene. Despite being removable, to get the best results, aligners should be worn at least 22 hours per day.

Another benefit of clear aligners is that they are very comfortable and won’t irritate gums or cheeks due to the fact that they are made out of smooth plastic.

Getting Your Teen to Wear Braces

While some teenagers realize that they have a dental problem and want to get braces, there are teens who refuse to get braces, either because they don’t care if their teeth are crooked, or they do not want to be teased by their peers. In this case, it is crucial that parents step in and help them realize how braces can change their lives.

You can try explaining to your teen that, while getting braces means they will have straight teeth and better self-esteem, there are numerous other benefits to this treatment. Preventing several dental issues, including gum disease, tooth decay, and cavities, are other amazing benefits that may interest your teen. Our specialists at Pure Orthodontics can also help with explaining the facts to your child and getting him or her familiar with the pros of getting braces at the initial appointment, helping make them more open to treatment.

Of course, getting your teen to wear braces is only the beginning. Teens who have issues accepting treatment can also have problems with being compliant. You should be patient during this period, and help them stick to a proper diet and cleaning schedule that will make the process a lot more efficient and faster.
